| Oil Country Tubular Goods (OCTG) | | | U. S. Steel Tubular Products is the leading U.S. supplier of Oil Country Tubular Goods (OCTG). Our casing and tubing is used in more than 70 countries and in every kind of oilfield environment - our seam-annealed pipe is used in relatively shallow wells and our premium products such as seamless pipe and electric-resistance-welded, full-body normalized pipe is essential to exploring for and producing natural gas and oil in deep, hostile offshore environments. We offer OCTG in sizes from one-inch to 16 inches and have the industry's broadest range of pipe chemistries. | | Expandable Casing | | U. S. Steel Tubular Products is the world's primary producer of expandable casing. We continue to work with the industry on the development and commercialization of expandable tube technology. The physical properties of U. S. Steel Tubular Products tubulars and our ability to produce pipe with special proprietary chemistries, such as LSX 80, have made this advanced technology a practical solution. Our expandable casing has been used in hundreds of wells and been run successfully to depths greater than 22,200 feet. Our expandable casing has been used in ultra-deep offshore wells where the water depth was 7,800 feet. Monobore drilling is the cutting edge of oilfield technology and the U. S. Steel Tubular Products expandable casing was used to successfully complete the world's first monobore well. U. S. Steel Tubular Products is also actively participating in the development of the promising technology of casing drilling. | | U. S. Steel Tubular Products manufactures a wide array of OCTG: pipe for difficult applications such as sour gas, high pressure, offshore and arctic wells; standard American Petroleum Institute (API) grades; as well as Wildcat® brand tubulars for less critical wells. Casing is available in diameters from 4.500 through 20.000 inches. U. S. Steel Tubular Products proprietary grades include LS-65, HCK-55, HCN-80, S-95, HCL-80, H2S-90®, H2S-95®, HCP-110, HCQ-125, LS-140 and Arctic grades J-55, L-80, S-95, P-110 and Q-125. Available API grades include H-40, J-55, K-55, L-80, N-80, C-95, P-110 and Q-125. Tubing is manufactured in diameters from 1.063 through 3.500 inches and is available in non-upset, API upset, and heavier upsets for proprietary end finishes. Grades include J-55, N-80 and L-80. H-40, J-55 and K-55 grade products are ready for finishing and testing after heat treatment and sizing. Casing grades higher than N-80 are quenched and tempered. N-80 casing is available either normalized or quenched and tempered. | | Quench and Temper | | Thick wall and controlled yield material is quenched in an inside/outside spray quench line that uses gas-fired walking-beam furnaces for heating. Thin wall tubes are quenched in an outside only spray quench line that uses induction furnaces for heating. Tubes in both lines are serial numbered by low impact dot matrix die stamping prior to austenitizing. | | Tubing | | Tubing is available in API upsets, extended upsets and heavier upsets for proprietary end finishes. N-80 tubing is full-length normalized after upset. J-55 is full-length normalized after upset upon agreement. L-80 is full-length quench and tempered after upset. U. S. Steel Tubular Products will guarantee the coatability of its tubing. | | Finishing | | Laboratory tests confirm full compliance to specifications and other mechanical property requirements before the pipe is threaded, coupled, drift tested and hydrostatically tested. Threading is performed using numerically controlled (NC) threaders or high-speed carbide tool threaders. U. S. Steel Tubular Products drift tests every length of casing and tubing and offers over-sized drifts as standard on many diameters and weights of casing. Every length of U. S. Steel Tubular Products casing is hydrostatically tested to pressures based on a fiber stress of 80 percent of specified minimum yield strength, H-40 and K-55 casing are tested to the higher alternate pressures listed in API 5CT. After testing, casing and tubing is weighed, measured, stenciled, coated and then moved to a warehouse location, ready for shipment to our customers. | | |
